Step 1: Remove from pot
Tap the pot gently and lift the plant out. Avoid pulling from stems to prevent breakage.
Step 2: Clean and prune
Rinse roots under running water. Trim off all mushy brown sections until only firm, pale tissue remains. Sterilize scissors with alcohol.
Step 3: Repot in airy mix
Use a mix of potting soil, perlite, and bark for optimal drainage. Choose a pot with holes and avoid leaving water in saucers.
Step 4: Adjust watering & light
Let the mix dry slightly before each watering. Increase airflow and bright indirect light to prevent new rot.
Preventive habits
- Check root health monthly.
- Use moisture meters or lift-pot method to gauge dryness.
- Never water on a strict schedule — respond to plant and environment.
