Key differences from cacti
Euphorbia species often have columnar, angled stems with paired thorns, but lack areoles. When cut, they exude white, milky latex that can irritate skin and eyes.
Common indoor examples
- Euphorbia trigona: tall, three-angled stems with paired thorns at the margins.
- Euphorbia milii (Crown of Thorns): thorny canes with bright bracts; latex present on cuts.
Safety & handling
Wear gloves and eye protection; keep latex off skin. If contact occurs, flush with plenty of water and seek guidance if irritation persists.
