Types of Variegation

  • Marbled: Random mottling of lighter pigments (Marble Queen Pothos).
  • Sectoral: Large, defined color blocks.
  • Pinstripe: Fine, linear vein highlights (Calathea ornata).
  • Anthocyanin Flush: Red or purple underside hues (Tradescantia zebrina).

Care Implications

Most variegated plants require bright, indirect light to maintain contrast. Too little light may cause reversion to solid green leaves.
