Create predictable drying cycles and fix mixes so watering mistakes fade away.
Set a rhythm (not a rigid schedule)
Water thoroughly, then wait until the root zone dries to your target depth. Expect longer gaps in low light/winter and shorter gaps in bright light/summer.
Mix tuning
- Too wet: add perlite/pumice/bark to increase air space.
- Too fast-drying: add more base (peat/coco) or fine bark to hold moisture.
- Pot choice: terracotta speeds drying; plastic slows it.
Placement matters
Move plants closer to bright-indirect light and increase airflow to standardize dry-down times and prevent rot.
